Is Media Ruining America?

The League of Women Voters of Larimer County presents a five-part series that examines the dangerous proliferation of fake news, the resulting impact on our democracy, and how we can become better consumers of news. This series was developed by the LWV of Jefferson County, CO. The League of Women Voters of Larimer County is grateful to the JeffCo League for offering the materials to us to enable broader exposure.

Session 1: How We Got Here
This session covers the evolution of media and recent changes brought by deregulation and technology; the rise of cable news, talk radio, the Internet, and social media; the use of algorithms; the decline in print/broadcast/local media; and the proliferation of digital media channels.

Session 2: Recognizing and Confronting Bias
This session covers how to recognize and combat bias on a personal level and in the media.
