Women's Equality Day Honorees Announced!

The Women's Equality Day team has announced the selection of Kristin Stephens, Larimer County Commissioner, as the 2025 Women's Equality Day honoree. Kristin is recognized for her work in promoting voting rights, election transparency, and women's rights and opportunities. She has committed her career to public service.

The League Legacy honor will be awarded to Anne Thompson. A Past President of the League of Women Voters of Larimer County, Anne promotes voting information and public policy issues by managing VOTE411. She serves as a moderator for candidate forums and mentors new moderators, among other contributions.

Make plans now to attend this celebration on August 21 at Sweet Heart Winery in Loveland. Tickets will be available for purchase on June 15!

Join the July 4 Parade in Fort Collins!

The City of Fort Collins has accepted the League's application to participate in the Fort Collins July 4 parade! Our group of up to 40 members will travel westbound on Mountain Avenue between Howes Street and Jackson Avenue. We will carry the League and Voter Girl banners, wear League t-shirts or dress as suffragists, and hand out candy and Vote 411 bookmarks to the community.

We encourage you to register to participate as early as possible, given the 40-member limit. Let's raise awareness about the League of Women Voters!

You can register here.

Women's Equality Day Event Silent Auction Item Donations Still Needed

We are still looking for a few additional items for the Women's Equality Day silent auction. Please contact Julie Stackhouse if you or your team would like to donate an item. We are especially interested in vacation home lodging opportunities.

We would appreciate receiving all auction donations by no later than July 15.

Please Change Your League Website Password

On June 1, we enabled a strong password requirement for new League members. However, we recently learned that the website does not force a strong password requirement for existing members.

For everyone's security, we encourage you to change your password to a minimum length of 12 characters, with each password containing a lowercase letter, uppercase letter, number, and symbol. To do so, simply click on your name in the upper-right hand corner of the website after logging in, select "Profile," and "User Name/Password."

UPCOMING EVENTS

Colorado Open Meetings Law and Why Democracy Requires Transparency
Tuesday, June 17
4:30 - 5:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, June 17, the News Access and Literacy Task Force will host Jeff Roberts of the Colorado Freedom of Information Coalition.

In recent years, the Colorado General Assembly has taken steps that have moved Colorado government away from transparency, or "sunshine." One component of our Colorado sunshine laws is the Colorado Open Meetings Law (COML). Jeff will speak on COML and explain why democracy requires transparency and how Colorado has moved away from transparency.

The meeting is virtual and open to all League members and the public. Please use this link to register for this free meeting.

Please bring a dish to share, your own table service, and ideas for South Larimer Discussion.

This event is open to members - new and old - and anyone else who is interested in knowing more about the South Larimer Discussion Group and the League.

The time and place of the picnic are yet to be determined. Please check the website calendar at lwv-larimercounty.org for updates.

How AI Could Save Our Democratic Institutions
Wednesday, June 18
3:00 p.m.

On June 18, the Leagues of Women Voters of Maine, Alaska, and Colorado will present another in their series "Let's Talk About Digital Threats to Democracy."

Our guest will be Beth Simone Noveck, Professor at Northeastern University, where she directs the Burnes Center for Social Change and its partner project, The Governance Lab (The GovLab). Beth will draw from her extensive experience building technology for government at every level - from the White House to state agencies - and outline her vision for "Democratic AI": systems designed to expand our collective capacity to gather knowledge, deliberate choices, and deliver public action.
