Informed Voter Book Club

ballot-cover-highThere’s still time to (quickly) read this month’s Book Club book!  Join the Voter Services and Public Relations team on Wednesday, October 12 from 6-8pm at Old Firehouse Books for a discussion of Give Us the Ballot by Ari Berman.

The author’s website describes the book:

… Ari Berman charts both the transformation of American democracy under the Voting Rights Act and the counterrevolution that has sought to limit voting rights from 1965 to the present day. The act enfranchised millions of Americans and is widely regarded as the crowning achievement of the civil rights movement. And yet fifty years later we are still fighting heated battles over race, representation, and political power, with lawmakers devising new strategies to keep minorities out of the voting booth and the Supreme Court declaring a key part of the Voting Rights Act unconstitutional.

Read more about the book and the accolades it has received online or watch a video of an interview with author Ari Berman at the LA Times Festival of Books.
Next month’s book will be The Righteous Mind by Jonathan Haidt.  We will meet November 9, 6-8pm for a discussion facilitated by PR Team.
